Josh Peers

Josh previously worked for the NHS for over a decade, with eight years in mental health services. He decided teaching was the career for him due to the lasting impression left by several teachers during his own school days. These experiences were formative for him.

Josh pursued a PGCE through The OAKS ITT. The programme’s reputation and support network outshone those of other providers, which attracted him particularly. The OAKS provided Josh with incredible support, both administratively and pastorally. His mentors were excellent, and the camaraderie with other trainees invaluable. The varied placements and consistent support made this a standout course for Josh, and he feels that working closely with regular contacts fosters a supportive environment.

He strives to make a lasting impression and impact in the classroom, making lessons engaging and relevant to students’ lives, and fostering a connection with the material. He values building relationships with students and witnessing their moments of realisation when they understand a concept. His ambition for the future is to ensure that every student remembers he always encouraged them to be their best.

In five to 10 years, he sees himself happily teaching, potentially progressing towards incorporating pastoral elements into his position, without losing his teaching role.

Josh has secured himself a teaching role for September 2024, at Cliff Park Ormiston Academy, having completed some of his work placement at the academy
