Chloe Finn

At 22, Chloe Finn is already making a positive impact as a Biology trainee with Ormiston Teacher Training. Following the PGCE School Direct (non-salaried) route, Chloe is building her teaching career on a strong foundation of subject knowledge, practical experience and a clear passion for supporting young people.

Before stepping into the classroom, Chloe completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science at the University of Essex. Alongside her studies, she spent five years working as a sales and administrative assistant at a driving school – an experience that helped her develop strong organisational and communication skills.

From solo experiences to shared understanding

Outside of academics and work, Chloe describes herself as someone who enjoys baking, reading and going to the gym. During university, she also took on leadership and mentoring roles, volunteering as both a Welfare Officer and Society President. In these roles, she supported students’ wellbeing and mentored first-year students as they adjusted to university life.

“I’ve always enjoyed helping others and supporting people to feel comfortable and confident,” she explains. “Those experiences really shaped my decision to go into teaching.” Chloe’s ambition to become a teacher was solidified during her second year at university, when she completed a three-week internship at a secondary school in Woodbridge.

“I loved every second of it,” she says. “Helping students understand the content and seeing that ‘lightbulb’ moment when it finally clicks – it was so rewarding. I knew then that I wanted to help more young people reach that point.” Having always enjoyed Biology at school, Chloe chose to continue her studies in the subject at university, making it a natural choice for her teaching specialism.

“Science has so many transferable skills that students can use in all aspects of life,” she explains. “I wanted to share my love for Biology and hopefully inspire students to pursue science in their future education or careers.”

Starting the journey into teaching

Chloe chose the PGCE School Direct (non-salaried) route to ensure she could gain hands-on classroom experience from the very beginning. She discovered Ormiston Teacher Training through the Department for Education application process, but it was the experience of the interview itself that confirmed her decision.

“The facilitators were so warm and welcoming,” she recalls. “It just felt right, and I remember feeling really excited when I received my acceptance email.” In her teaching practice, Chloe places strong emphasis on building relationships and creating a positive learning environment.

“I think I make an impact by being welcoming and supportive,” she says. “I always try to build a positive rapport with students, even just saying hello in the corridors can make a difference. It helps students feel more comfortable and ready to learn.” For Chloe, one of the standout aspects of the Ormiston Teacher Training programme is the way it bridges theory and practice.

“Every training day gives you something you can take straight into the classroom and try out,” she says. “It’s also really helpful to talk with other trainees…you realise you’re all going through similar experiences, and you can support each other.” Her favourite part of teaching comes back to relationships and the classroom environment she can create. Looking ahead, Chloe is excited about the opportunity to shape her own classroom as an Early Career Teacher.

“I’m really looking forward to having my own classroom and creating a comfortable, positive space for learning,” she says. “I’m also excited to build relationships with both colleagues and students.” With her enthusiasm, dedication and student-centred approach, Chloe is already laying the groundwork for a successful and impactful career in education.

“I chose to teach because I wanted to provide an environment where students feel safe to make mistakes and be confident in the fact that I will be there to motivate and help them.”
