Florina Mos
Florina Mos’s, journey into teaching has been anything but linear, and it is that breadth of life experience that now enriches her classroom every day. As a Modern Foreign Languages trainee with Ormiston Teacher Training, Florina teaches French and Spanish, bringing both passion and perseverance to her training year.

Originally from Romania, Florina completed two teaching qualifications in her home country. However, after moving to the UK, she did not immediately return to education. Instead, she spent nearly twenty years working in a variety of office-based roles. It was her daughter who ultimately reignited her teaching ambition, encouraging her to apply for a cover supervisor role at her school. Stepping back into a classroom environment brought everything into focus.
“Being in school again reminded me how much I loved supporting students and how fulfilling it felt to contribute to their growth,” she says. “It reignited a passion I had put aside for years.”
A passion founded by family
Languages have always played a central role in Florina’s life. As a Romanian speaker, she found Romance languages came naturally to her, and she quickly developed a fascination with how language connects people, cultures and perspectives.
“Languages have shaped my life, opened doors, and helped me understand the world in different ways,” she explains. “Teaching French, and now Spanish, felt like the perfect way to combine something I love with a meaningful career.”
For Florina, language learning is about more than vocabulary and grammar, it’s about confidence, communication and curiosity. She wants her students to experience the same sense of possibility that languages have given her. Choosing the PGCE route was a deliberate decision. “The PGCE is highly transferable, which was important to me,” she says. “I may want to travel or work abroad again in the future, so having a qualification I can use anywhere in the world gives me flexibility.” The balance of academic study and practical classroom experience felt like the ideal foundation for her development.
To prepare for the course, Florina committed herself fully to strengthening her subject knowledge. She completed a fully funded French enhancement course, boosting both her fluency and confidence. After achieving a distinction in her degree, she was also awarded a bursary to support her PGCE studies. Alongside formal study, she immersed herself in language learning daily – practicing on Duolingo, watching films, listening to music and engaging with media in both French and Spanish to stay connected to the cultural richness of the subjects she teaches.
“I chose to teach because languages have always been my way of understanding the world, and I want to give young people the same confidence, curiosity, and opportunities that learning a new language has given me.”
Making the difference with Ormiston Teacher Training
Florina discovered Ormiston Teacher Training through colleagues at her school and was immediately drawn to its personalised approach.
“From the beginning, the team made the process clear and manageable, even when I faced challenges with my degree equivalency and other administrative hurdles,” she explains. “It never felt overwhelming because I always felt supported.”
She speaks warmly about the guidance she has received throughout her training year. “My tutor has been an incredible source of support, especially during moments when I doubted whether I could continue. Her encouragement, along with the dedication of the MFL department at my school, has played a huge role in my success so far.”
For Florina, the most rewarding part of teaching lies in those powerful breakthrough moments – when a student suddenly understands, speaks confidently in another language, or realises what they are capable of achieving.
Looking ahead to her Early Career Teacher (ECT) year, she is excited to have her own classes and build long-term relationships with students from the very beginning. Her ambitions extend beyond the classroom too: she hopes to contribute further to her department, support language learners across the school, and help raise the profile of Modern Foreign Languages. In time, she would love to take on additional responsibilities, perhaps leading language clubs or contributing to curriculum development.
